Water purification involves removing contaminants to make water potable, using technologies like membrane filtration and reverse osmosis, tailored according to available water sources, such as surface water, well water, or even industrial effluents.

In many African countries, official reports show that 80% of diseases are waterborne—largely influenced by microorganisms. In West Africa, 20% of children die before reaching the age of 5, mainly due to these diseases.

Membranes are the technology of choice to limit human (maternal and infant mortality) and financial losses due to waterborne diseases. Besides superior water quality, their durability, modularity, and adaptability to photovoltaic solar power demonstrate that they can play a crucial role in the socio-economic development of Africa.

Membrane technologies are very reliable and cost-effective in meeting WHO recommendations for potable water quality.
